Understanding Arthritis:

Arthritis is a condition that causes inflammation and pain in the joints, affecting millions of people worldwide. It can lead to stiffness, swelling, and decreased range of motion, making it difficult to perform simple tasks. While there are different types of arthritis, the most common forms are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

  • Osteoarthritis: This is the most common form of arthritis, often referred to as "wear and tear" arthritis. It occurs when the cartilage that cushions the ends of your bones wears down over time, leading to pain, swelling, and restricted movement.
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis: This is an autoimmune disorder that occurs when your immune system mistakenly attacks your own body's tissues, particularly the lining of the joints. It causes painful swelling, and over time, it can result in joint deformity and bone erosion.

How Chiropractic Care Helps:

Chiropractic care focuses on the alignment of the spine and joints, which can significantly impact your overall health and well-being. For arthritis sufferers, chiropractic treatments offer a natural, drug-free approach to managing pain and improving joint function. Here are some essential chiropractic treatments that can help alleviate arthritis pain:

1. Spinal Adjustments:

Spinal adjustments help restore proper alignment to the spine, reducing pressure on the nervous system and promoting better communication between the brain and body. This can lead to decreased inflammation and pain in the joints affected by arthritis.

  • Benefits of Spinal Adjustments: By ensuring that the spine is properly aligned, spinal adjustments can help reduce nerve irritation, improve joint mobility, and enhance overall physical function. This is particularly beneficial for arthritis patients, as misalignments in the spine can exacerbate joint pain and discomfort.

2. Joint Mobilization:

Joint mobilization techniques involve gentle movements of the affected joints to improve their range of motion and reduce stiffness. This treatment helps increase flexibility and decrease pain, allowing you to move more comfortably.

  • Types of Joint Mobilization: Chiropractors may use various techniques, such as manual joint mobilization, where they apply controlled movements to the joints, or instrument-assisted mobilization, which uses specialized tools to achieve the same effect.

3. Soft Tissue Therapy:

Soft tissue therapy targets the muscles, ligaments, and tendons surrounding the joints. By releasing tension and reducing inflammation in these soft tissues, chiropractic care can help alleviate pain and improve joint function.

  • Methods of Soft Tissue Therapy: Techniques such as myofascial release, trigger point therapy, and deep tissue massage can help reduce muscle tightness and improve blood flow to the affected areas, enhancing healing and reducing pain.

4. Exercise and Rehabilitation:

Chiropractors often recommend specific exercises and stretches tailored to your condition. These exercises strengthen the muscles around the joints, providing better support and reducing the risk of further injury.

  • Personalized Exercise Plans: At Peak Chiropractic, we develop customized exercise plans that are designed to improve joint function, enhance flexibility, and build strength. Regular exercise is crucial for managing arthritis symptoms and preventing further joint damage.

5. Lifestyle and Nutritional Advice:

Managing arthritis pain goes beyond in-office treatments. Chiropractors can provide valuable advice on lifestyle changes and nutrition that can help reduce inflammation and improve your overall health. Maintaining a healthy weight, eating an anti-inflammatory diet, and staying active are all important aspects of managing arthritis.

  • Nutritional Guidance: Incorporating anti-inflammatory foods such as leafy greens, fatty fish, nuts, and seeds into your diet can help reduce inflammation and ease arthritis symptoms. Avoiding processed foods, sugars, and trans fats is also beneficial.
  • Lifestyle Modifications: Simple changes, such as using ergonomic furniture, practicing good posture, and taking regular breaks to move around, can significantly reduce arthritis pain and improve your quality of life.

Additional Chiropractic Techniques for Arthritis Relief:

1. Ultrasound Therapy:

Ultrasound therapy uses sound waves to generate deep heat within the tissues. This can help reduce pain, improve circulation, and promote healing in the affected joints.

  • How It Works: The ultrasound device is moved over the skin above the painful joint, sending sound waves deep into the tissue. This deep heating can help to increase blood flow, reduce muscle spasms, and accelerate the healing process.

2. Cold Laser Therapy:

Cold laser therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy, uses light to penetrate the tissues and reduce inflammation. It’s a non-invasive treatment that can provide relief for arthritis pain.

  • Benefits of Cold Laser Therapy: This treatment helps reduce pain and inflammation, promote tissue repair, and stimulate cell growth, providing a non-invasive option for managing arthritis symptoms.

3. Electrical Stimulation:

Electrical stimulation involves the use of electrical currents to stimulate the nerves and muscles, helping to reduce pain and improve joint function.

  • Types of Electrical Stimulation: Techniques such as Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) and Interferential Current (IFC) therapy can be used to provide pain relief and enhance muscle strength and flexibility.

Grounding and Nervous System Health: Reconnecting with Your Body

Grounding and Nervous System Health: Reconnecting with Your Body

We've moved indoors, onto screens, and off the earth — and our nervous systems are paying the price. Grounding, the simple practice of making direct contact with the earth's surface, is one of the most accessible ways to support nervous system balance and reduce chronic stress. Here's what the research says and how it works alongside upper cervical care.

The Upper Cervical Complex: A Keystone for Spinal Health

The Upper Cervical Complex: A Keystone for Spinal Health

Most people think of spinal health as something that works from the bottom up. But the evidence points in the opposite direction — your spine's integrity starts at the very top. The atlas (C1) and axis (C2) vertebrae form the foundation of the entire nervous system. When they're aligned, everything works better. When they're not, the effects can ripple from your neck all the way down.

Understanding Posture: How "Tech Neck" Affects Your Nervous System

Most people know that staring down at a phone all day causes neck tension. What fewer people realize is that forward head posture — even by just a few degrees — can place serious stress on the brainstem and disrupt nervous system function throughout the entire body. Here's what's really happening, and what you can do about it.

How Neck Alignment Impacts Energy Levels

How Neck Alignment Impacts Energy Levels

Fatigue that won't go away — no matter how much you sleep, eat well, or cut back on stress — may not be a lifestyle problem at all. It may be your nervous system running on empty because of a misalignment in your upper cervical spine. Here's how the atlas and axis affect your body's energy from the inside out.

The Connection Between Sleep and Your Upper Cervical Spine

The Connection Between Sleep and Your Upper Cervical Spine

If you're waking up exhausted despite getting enough hours in bed, the problem may not be your habits — it may be your nervous system. The top two bones in your neck, the atlas and axis, protect the brainstem that controls your entire sleep-wake cycle. When they're misaligned, even slightly, deep restorative sleep can become nearly impossible. Here's why — and what you can do about it.

With a 3D imaging machine you visually can seen how out of align you are and then a plan of action to get you back to alignment
After dealing with migraines my whole life, then panic attacks and most recently vertigo, which is the absolute worst experience to go through. I was determined to find help and that is where I found Peak Chiropractic with Dr. John and Dr. Kyara. They are warm, welcoming and above all experts in the field of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care. They walk you through the process step by step and with a 3D imaging machine you visually can seen how out of align you are and then a plan of action to get you back to alignment. The adjustments are gentle and precise. No cracking or extreme movement of the head, which I can't handle. The last time I saw a chiropractor the extreme movement of my head led me to vomit in the bathroom right after the appointment. Not the case at Peak Chiropractic! I am on a treatment plan that started in February and will go until July and that gives my neck time to adjust and heal and then hopefully maintenance after. I can't tell you how happy I am to finally feel better, sleep better. I don't have the wave of dizziness that I was having on the daily. I also suffer from panic attacks driving and that in itself is debilitating. Even though I came to Peak for migraine and vertigo issues, I had no idea how much it would help me in gaining back my confidence to drive. I no longer get in my car with the feeling of dread and panic. That in itself is life changing!! So thankful and grateful for the care I am receiving and the healing and recovery process. I highly recommend you take the time to get the help you need if suffering from migraines, vertigo or panic attacks. No reason to be miserable when you can get the help you need and through Amazing people like Dr. John and Dr. Kyara!

I was quite impressed with the technology used to assess my neck and spine.
I started my care with Peak back in mid February. I had never heard of a cervical chiropractor, until my daughter convinced me to try it. I had been dealing with shoulder/neck pain periodically, off and on, never quite getting rid of it. My last experience with a chiropractor left me injured and not feeling very confident about ever using chiropractic care again. Upon beginning my care with Peak, I began to see that this was different then anything i had ever heard of before. I was quite impressed with the technology used to assess my neck and spine. I began my adjustments, and was informed I would go through a detox with my body. Some weeks I was feeling great, and some weeks i definitely was feeling more pain. After about four weeks of regular adjustments, I probably had my worst week of pain! The following week was my best week, in fact, I didn’t even need to be adjusted. I am excited to continue my care with Dr. John and Dr. Kyara! As time moves forward, I am seeing more and more improvement. My body is beginning to recover on its own when i have been through excess stress or exertion. Before, my body was “stuck” in pain, and now it’s beginning to bounce back on its own. Dr John and Dr Kyara are both very kind, compassionate professionals. If you are on the fence about jumping in to cervical chiropractic care, take the plunge! The only thing you have to lose is your pain and discomfort!
