Supplements That Can Support Concussion Recovery

Concussions can have wide-ranging effects on the brain and nervous system, including headaches, fatigue, dizziness, mood changes, and difficulty concentrating. While rest and professional care are essential, certain supplements may help support the brain's healing processes and reduce recovery time. Combined with upper cervical chiropractic care, proper nutrition gives your nervous system the best chance to recover fully.

1. Omega-3 Fatty Acids (DHA & EPA)

Omega-3s, particularly DHA and EPA found in fish oil, are essential for brain health. They help reduce inflammation in the nervous system and support repair of damaged neurons. Research shows that omega-3 supplementation may improve cognitive function and support overall recovery after brain injury.

2. Magnesium

Magnesium is critical for healthy nerve function and brain signaling. After a concussion, magnesium levels can drop, leading to headaches, irritability, and difficulty relaxing. Supplementing with magnesium can help calm the nervous system, reduce tension, and promote better sleep, all of which are vital for recovery. Our favorite magnesium is Triple Magnesium Complex by Designs For Health (you can find it and all your supplements here).

3. Vitamin D

Vitamin D isn't just important for bones — it plays a significant role in brain health and immune function. Adequate vitamin D levels may help the brain repair itself after injury, reduce inflammation, and support overall neurological function. Many individuals are deficient, so supplementation can be particularly helpful post-concussion.

4. Curcumin

Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It helps reduce oxidative stress in the brain, which can occur after a concussion. By protecting neurons and supporting repair processes, curcumin may reduce post-concussion symptoms and support long-term brain health.

5. Antioxidants (Vitamin C, Vitamin E, CoQ10)

After a concussion, the brain can experience increased oxidative stress, which damages cells. Antioxidants like vitamin C, vitamin E, and CoQ10 help neutralize free radicals and support cellular repair. Including these in your recovery plan can give your brain the extra support it needs to heal effectively.

6. Creatine (5g daily)

Creatine is well-known for supporting muscle energy, but it's also incredibly beneficial for the brain. It helps provide extra energy to neurons, supporting cognitive function, memory, and focus during recovery. Research suggests that creatine supplementation may improve brain energy metabolism and support faster healing after concussion.

Putting It All Together

While supplements alone cannot "cure" a concussion, they can support the body's natural healing processes. Combined with proper rest, hydration, nutrition, and upper cervical chiropractic care, they provide an additional layer of support for the nervous system.

Important: Always consult your healthcare provider before starting new supplements, especially after a head injury, to ensure safety and proper dosing.

Supporting recovery isn't just about easing symptoms — it's about helping the brain communicate efficiently with the rest of the body so it can heal fully. Supplements like omega-3s, magnesium, antioxidants, curcumin, vitamin D, and creatine can all play a valuable role in that process.

How Neck Alignment Impacts Energy Levels

Fatigue that won't go away — no matter how much you sleep, eat well, or cut back on stress — may not be a lifestyle problem at all. It may be your nervous system running on empty because of a misalignment in your upper cervical spine. Here's how the atlas and axis affect your body's energy from the inside out.

The Connection Between Sleep and Your Upper Cervical Spine

If you're waking up exhausted despite getting enough hours in bed, the problem may not be your habits — it may be your nervous system. The top two bones in your neck, the atlas and axis, protect the brainstem that controls your entire sleep-wake cycle. When they're misaligned, even slightly, deep restorative sleep can become nearly impossible. Here's why — and what you can do about it.

Clearing the Fog: How Upper Cervical Chiropractic Can Help with Brain Fog

Brain fog — that frustrating cloud of forgetfulness, slow thinking, and mental fatigue — is more than just tiredness. I sleep better. I don't hurt anymore. If you have given up ever feeling better, try them.
I've been to a lot of chiropractors. Peak Chiropractic is the only one that's actually made a significant difference in my well-being. I went from three to four migraines a month down to maybe one every two or three months. I sleep better. I don't hurt anymore. If you have given up ever feeling better, try them. I'll never be 100% but this is the closest I've ever felt to getting there.
