Scoliosis

What is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a condition characterized by an abnormal curvature of the spine, which can appear as an “S” or “C” shape when viewed from behind. This condition often develops during adolescence, but it can also appear later in life due to factors like degeneration or injury. Scoliosis ranges from mild to severe and can affect mobility, posture, and overall quality of life.

Causes of Scoliosis

While some cases of scoliosis are idiopathic (having no known cause), other factors may include:

  • Genetic predisposition
  • Congenital spine abnormalities
  • Neuromuscular conditions
  • Injuries or trauma

How Chiropractic Care Can Help

At Peak Chiropractic, we focus on providing care that supports the spine's natural alignment and reduces the impact of scoliosis on your daily life. While chiropractic care doesn’t "cure" scoliosis, it can:

  • Alleviate discomfort and pain
  • Improve posture and spinal alignment
  • Enhance mobility and flexibility
  • Support overall spinal health

Our gentle, precise techniques are tailored to meet your specific needs and help you achieve long-term relief.

Symptoms of Scoliosis

The symptoms of scoliosis vary depending on the severity of the condition but may include:

  • Uneven Shoulders: One shoulder may appear higher than the other.
  • Asymmetrical Waist: The waist may look uneven or tilted.
  • Protruding Ribs: One side of the ribcage may appear more prominent due to the spinal curve.
  • Back Pain: Especially in adults, scoliosis can lead to chronic pain and stiffness.
  • Limited Mobility: Severe cases may restrict range of motion and flexibility.

If you recognize any of these signs, it’s essential to seek professional care. At Peak Chiropractic, we offer a thorough assessment to determine how we can help manage your scoliosis symptoms effectively.

Was able to stand up straight for the first time in years, hip discomfort and shoulder pain were immediately relieved
After trying chiropractic treatments and months of physical therapy that produced little to no results we had about given up on the medical field. Fortunately Connie found Peak Chiropractic! After her first adjustment she had amazing results, she was able to stand up straight for the first time in years, hip discomfort and shoulder pain were immediately relieved which led me to quickly make an appointment. Range of motion in my neck was pretty much non-existent and after my first adjustment was tremendously improved! Connie and I both continue to see great improvements in our overall health and are amazed at our progress. It is definitely a journey well worth taking. Drs. John and Kyara are both very knowledgeable and professional with the added bonus of being wonderful and caring people, their passion to help is very evident in everything they do. Highly recommended, it is a life changing experience!

Person holding back of head and neck representing migraine pain caused by upper cervical misalignment and nervous system stress

Migraines: Understanding the Root Causes Beyond "Triggers"

If you live with migraines, you've probably been handed a list of triggers to avoid — caffeine, red wine, bright lights, stress. But avoiding triggers doesn't stop migraines. It just keeps you managing symptoms instead of fixing the underlying problem. This post breaks down what's actually driving your migraines, and why addressing the nervous system at its root is the key to lasting relief.

Why Helmets Are Essential: Protecting Your Brain and Nervous System

Whether you're biking through the Boise foothills, skiing, playing football, or letting your kids skateboard down the street — a helmet is one of the most important tools you have to protect your brain, brainstem, and upper cervical spine. This post explains what's really at stake when we skip the helmet, and why head protection matters far beyond just avoiding a visible injury.

Clearing the Fog: How Upper Cervical Chiropractic Can Help with Brain Fog

Brain fog — that frustrating cloud of forgetfulness, slow thinking, and mental fatigue — is more than just tiredness. It's often a signal that your nervous system, specifically the brainstem protected by the atlas and axis bones, isn't functioning at its best. When these upper cervical vertebrae are misaligned, blood flow, cerebrospinal fluid drainage, and nerve communication can all be disrupted. Learn how gentle, precise upper cervical chiropractic care in Boise can help clear the fog and restore your mental sharpness.
Person with hands on abdomen experiencing digestive discomfort related to upper cervical misalignment and nervous system dysfunction

The Surprising Link Between Upper Cervical Health and Digestion

Most people connect digestive health to diet and gut bacteria — but your nervous system plays a critical role too. The vagus nerve, which controls digestion, originates from the brainstem housed inside the atlas and axis bones at the top of your spine. When these bones shift out of alignment, it can disrupt communication between your brain and gut, leading to bloating, constipation, acid reflux, and more. Discover how gentle upper cervical chiropractic care in Boise can help restore digestive balance from the source.
