What is Knee Pain?

Knee pain refers to discomfort or pain in and around the knee joint, which is one of the largest and most complex joints in the body. The knee is responsible for supporting weight during activities like walking, running, and climbing stairs, making it vulnerable to injury and wear over time. Knee pain can range from a mild ache to severe, debilitating pain that affects mobility and daily life. It may result from structural problems in the joint, inflammation, or nerve issues originating from the spine.

Common Causes of Knee Pain

Knee pain can stem from a variety of causes, including:

  • Osteoarthritis: Wear and tear on the cartilage in the knee joint often leads to pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility.
  • Tendonitis: Inflammation of the tendons, such as patellar tendonitis (jumper’s knee), causes pain during movement.
  • Ligament Injuries: Tears or sprains in the knee ligaments, such as the ACL or MCL, often result from sports injuries or trauma.
  • Meniscus Tears: Damage to the cartilage cushioning the knee joint can cause pain, swelling, and locking of the knee.
  • Bursitis: Inflammation of the bursae, small fluid-filled sacs in the knee, can cause sharp or throbbing pain.
  • Poor Alignment: Misalignments in the hips, pelvis, or spine can place excessive strain on the knee joint, leading to discomfort.
  • Overuse Injuries: Repeated stress from activities like running or cycling can inflame tissues in and around the knee.
  • Chronic Conditions: Diseases like rheumatoid arthritis or gout can cause knee pain due to inflammation or crystal deposits.

How Knee Pain Affects Your Life

Knee pain can make it difficult to enjoy physical activities, maintain an active lifestyle, or complete everyday tasks. Left untreated, knee pain can lead to compensatory issues, such as hip or lower back pain, as other joints take on the extra strain. Chiropractic care addresses the root causes of knee pain, helping to restore function, reduce discomfort, and improve your overall quality of life.

Symptoms and Challenges of Knee Pain

The symptoms of knee pain often vary depending on its cause and severity. Recognizing these symptoms can help ensure timely care.

Common Symptoms of Knee Pain

  • Localized Pain: Aching, sharp, or throbbing pain around the knee joint.
  • Swelling or Inflammation: Visible swelling, warmth, or redness in the knee area.
  • Stiffness: Difficulty bending or straightening the knee, especially after periods of inactivity.
  • Instability: A feeling of the knee "giving way," often linked to ligament or structural issues.
  • Clicking or Popping Sounds: Audible sounds during movement, sometimes accompanied by discomfort.
  • Radiating Pain: Pain that spreads to the thigh, shin, or lower back, often due to nerve involvement.
  • Weakness: Reduced strength in the knee or leg, making it challenging to climb stairs or lift objects.

Long-Term Effects of Untreated Knee Pain

Chronic knee pain can result in:

  • Mobility Limitations: Difficulty walking, running, or participating in physical activities.
  • Joint Damage: Prolonged stress or inflammation can accelerate cartilage wear, leading to arthritis or joint replacement.
  • Compensatory Issues: Over-reliance on other joints can lead to pain in the hips, back, or opposite knee.
  • Reduced Quality of Life: Persistent pain can interfere with work, hobbies, and social activities.

Chiropractic care offers a natural, drug-free solution to address these symptoms and promote healing, helping you return to an active lifestyle.

I was quite impressed with the technology used to assess my neck and spine.
I started my care with Peak back in mid February. I had never heard of a cervical chiropractor, until my daughter convinced me to try it. I had been dealing with shoulder/neck pain periodically, off and on, never quite getting rid of it. My last experience with a chiropractor left me injured and not feeling very confident about ever using chiropractic care again. Upon beginning my care with Peak, I began to see that this was different then anything i had ever heard of before. I was quite impressed with the technology used to assess my neck and spine. I began my adjustments, and was informed I would go through a detox with my body. Some weeks I was feeling great, and some weeks i definitely was feeling more pain. After about four weeks of regular adjustments, I probably had my worst week of pain! The following week was my best week, in fact, I didn’t even need to be adjusted. I am excited to continue my care with Dr. John and Dr. Kyara! As time moves forward, I am seeing more and more improvement. My body is beginning to recover on its own when i have been through excess stress or exertion. Before, my body was “stuck” in pain, and now it’s beginning to bounce back on its own. Dr John and Dr Kyara are both very kind, compassionate professionals. If you are on the fence about jumping in to cervical chiropractic care, take the plunge! The only thing you have to lose is your pain and discomfort!

They are very personable and you can tell that genuinely care about your well being.
Very impressed with Peak since day one! The staff is absolutely amazing. They are very personable and you can tell that genuinely care about your well being. I have been dealing with weekly migraines for almost 20 years. I was never willing to go down a more traditional pharmaceutical path of treating symptoms. I wanted to get to the root cause which is literally Peak’s vision behind every patient. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and I could not be more excited!

What Military Neck Actually Is

Military Neck Treatment in Boise: Restoring Your Natural Neck Curve

"Military neck" is the nickname for what happens when that curve flattens out, straightens, or in some cases reverses. The name comes from the rigid, at-attention posture it can create, like a soldier standing very upright. You may also hear it called loss of cervical lordosis or cervical kyphosis. Whatever it's called, the core issue is the same: the neck has lost the natural curve it's supposed to have.

Migraine Treatment in Boise: Calming the Nervous System With Upper Cervical Care

If you live with migraines, you already know they are nothing like an ordinary headache. The light that suddenly feels too bright, the nausea, the pressure that can steal an entire day — these aren't a matter of "just pushing through." At Peak Upper Cervical Center here in Boise, we look at migraines a little differently. Instead of only chasing the pain when it hits, we ask why your nervous system is tipping into a migraine in the first place.
