What is Leg Pain?

Leg pain refers to any discomfort or pain in the thighs, knees, calves, or feet. It can range from a mild ache to severe, sharp pain that limits mobility. Often, leg pain is a symptom of deeper issues, such as nerve compression, joint misalignments, or muscle strain. While temporary pain may result from overexertion or minor injuries, chronic or recurring leg pain often indicates the need for targeted care to address the underlying problem.

Common Causes of Leg Pain

Leg pain can result from a variety of physical, neurological, or structural factors, including:

  • Sciatica: Compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve causes sharp, radiating pain down the back of the leg.
  • Muscle Strain: Overuse, sudden movements, or improper stretching can strain leg muscles, leading to pain and stiffness.
  • Nerve Compression: Misalignments in the lower spine or pelvis can compress nerves, resulting in tingling, numbness, or pain in the legs.
  • Arthritis: Joint degeneration in the hips, knees, or ankles can cause chronic leg pain and stiffness.
  • Poor Circulation: Reduced blood flow to the legs, often due to conditions like peripheral artery disease, can cause aching or cramping.
  • Joint Misalignment: Imbalances in the hips, knees, or ankles can place additional stress on the legs, leading to discomfort.
  • Overuse Injuries: Repetitive motions, such as running or cycling, can cause inflammation or strain in the leg muscles or tendons.
  • Herniated Discs: Bulging or ruptured discs in the lumbar spine can press on nerves, leading to pain that radiates down the legs.

How Leg Pain Affects Your Life

Chronic leg pain can disrupt daily activities, limit mobility, and affect your overall quality of life. Left untreated, leg pain can lead to compensatory issues, where other joints and muscles take on the extra strain. Chiropractic care focuses on resolving the root causes of leg pain, helping to restore function and prevent further complications.

Symptoms and Challenges of Leg Pain

Leg pain can present in various forms, depending on its cause and severity. Recognizing these symptoms can help you seek timely care.

Common Symptoms of Leg Pain

  • Sharp or Radiating Pain: Pain that travels down the leg, often caused by nerve compression.
  • Aching or Throbbing: Persistent discomfort in the thighs, calves, or feet, often linked to overuse or joint issues.
  • Tingling or Numbness: A sensation of "pins and needles," particularly in the lower leg or foot, often associated with sciatica.
  • Weakness: Reduced strength or difficulty supporting weight on one or both legs.
  • Stiffness: Limited range of motion in the legs, making walking or bending difficult.
  • Swelling or Redness: Signs of inflammation, often caused by injury or joint problems.
  • Muscle Cramping: Sudden, involuntary contractions of the leg muscles, often due to overexertion or poor circulation.

Long-Term Effects of Untreated Leg Pain

If left unaddressed, chronic leg pain can lead to:

  • Mobility Limitations: Difficulty walking, climbing stairs, or performing physical activities.
  • Muscle Imbalances: Overcompensation in other areas of the body can lead to pain in the hips, back, or knees.
  • Increased Risk of Injury: Weakness or instability in the legs can make you more prone to falls or further injury.
  • Reduced Quality of Life: Persistent pain can interfere with work, hobbies, and social activities, leading to frustration and stress.

Chiropractic care provides a natural, non-invasive approach to addressing these symptoms and improving leg health.

I now no longer have daily migraines. Drs. Jon and Kyara truly want to help you get back on your feet and are ready to help you.
Dr. Jon and Dr. Kyara have helped give me life back! I have been suffering from severe migraines since I was in Elementary school and tried many different remedies. I have had many doctors tell me there was nothing wrong or prescribe different medications and send me on my way. Peak Chiropractic takes time to listen to me and explain what is going on. They look at the whole picture and go to the root. After my first adjustment it felt like a breath of fresh air. I felt energized again and slept so much better than I had in such a long time. I now no longer have daily migraines. Jon and Kyara truly want to help you get back on your feet and are ready to help you. They are truly amazing and do amazing work.

I will never go anywhere else
I highly recommend this chiropractor. I was hesitant to see a chiropractor because I had broken my back when I was younger and hate adjustments. That being said, I will never go anywhere else. I trust and feel comfortable here. The entire environment is comfortable and every person I talked to here was so personable and nice. Like I said, I highly recommend going here!

Since starting upper cervical chiropractic, there have been lasting changes in my upper and lower back
I have used conventional chiropractic (spinal manipulation, actuators, etc) for over 40 years. These adjustments never held or stabilized my issues. Since starting upper cervical chiropractic, there have been lasting changes in my upper and lower back and in my right hip. I have been to the Peak office for over 4 months now and am completely excited that as I enter my 80’s, I have had these significant improvements in my physical being. Thank you Peak staff!

The Upper Cervical Complex: A Keystone for Spinal Health

Most people think of spinal health as something that works from the bottom up. But the evidence points in the opposite direction — your spine's integrity starts at the very top. The atlas (C1) and axis (C2) vertebrae form the foundation of the entire nervous system. When they're aligned, everything works better. When they're not, the effects can ripple from your neck all the way down.

Understanding Posture: How "Tech Neck" Affects Your Nervous System

Most people know that staring down at a phone all day causes neck tension. What fewer people realize is that forward head posture — even by just a few degrees — can place serious stress on the brainstem and disrupt nervous system function throughout the entire body. Here's what's really happening, and what you can do about it.

The Benefits of Red Light Therapy: Healing at the Cellular Level

Red light therapy is gaining serious attention in the wellness community — and for good reason. From pain relief and faster recovery to nervous system support and better sleep, this non-invasive tool works at the most fundamental level: your cells. Here's what the science says and how it can fit into your health routine.

How Neck Alignment Impacts Energy Levels

Fatigue that won't go away — no matter how much you sleep, eat well, or cut back on stress — may not be a lifestyle problem at all. It may be your nervous system running on empty because of a misalignment in your upper cervical spine. Here's how the atlas and axis affect your body's energy from the inside out.
