Spinal Misalignment

What is Spinal Misalignment?

Spinal misalignment, often called subluxation, occurs when one or more vertebrae in the spine shift out of their correct position. This displacement can interfere with the natural alignment of the spine and cause stress on the surrounding muscles, ligaments, and nerves. Over time, misalignment can lead to a range of physical symptoms and systemic issues, as the spine plays a vital role in housing and protecting the central nervous system.

Why Does Spinal Alignment Matter?

The spine is central to your body’s structure, movement, and nervous system function. When misaligned, it can lead to nerve compression or irritation, disrupting the flow of signals between the brain and body. This can contribute to pain, stiffness, and even dysfunction in unrelated areas, such as digestion or sleep patterns.

Causes of Spinal Misalignment

Spinal misalignment doesn’t happen randomly; it is often the result of lifestyle factors, trauma, or repetitive strain. Common causes include:

  • Poor Posture: Sitting hunched over a desk, looking down at a phone, or sleeping in an awkward position can gradually misalign the spine.
  • Injuries and Trauma: Car accidents, falls, or sports injuries can cause sudden misalignment.
  • Repetitive Strain: Activities that involve repetitive motions or uneven weight distribution can lead to wear and tear on the spine.
  • Emotional or Physical Stress: Stress causes tension in muscles, which can pull the spine out of alignment.

At Peak Chiropractic, we understand that no two cases of misalignment are the same. We take a personalized approach to evaluate the underlying causes and provide a tailored treatment plan to restore balance and improve overall health.

Symptoms of Spinal Misalignment

Spinal misalignment can manifest in a variety of symptoms, ranging from mild discomfort to significant physical challenges. Recognizing the signs early is key to addressing the issue effectively. Common symptoms include:

  • Back Pain and Stiffness: Persistent aches or sharp pain in the upper, middle, or lower back often indicate misalignment.
  • Neck Pain and Headaches: Discomfort in the neck area, combined with tension headaches or migraines, is a common symptom.
  • Limited Mobility: A misaligned spine can restrict your range of motion, making everyday activities like bending or twisting difficult.
  • Nerve Pain or Numbness: Tingling or numbness in the arms, hands, legs, or feet is often linked to nerve compression caused by misalignment.
  • Postural Imbalances: Uneven shoulders, a tilted pelvis, or a slouched posture may indicate a deeper spinal issue.
  • Fatigue and Poor Sleep: Misalignment can create discomfort and tension that interfere with restful sleep, leaving you feeling drained.

Left untreated, spinal misalignment can worsen over time, potentially leading to chronic pain and a diminished quality of life. That’s why seeking professional care early is essential to restoring your health and preventing further complications.

I sleep better. I don't hurt anymore. If you have given up ever feeling better, try them.
I've been to a lot of chiropractors. Peak Chiropractic is the only one that's actually made a significant difference in my well-being. I went from three to four migraines a month down to maybe one every two or three months. I sleep better. I don't hurt anymore. If you have given up ever feeling better, try them. I'll never be 100% but this is the closest I've ever felt to getting there.

With a 3D imaging machine you visually can seen how out of align you are and then a plan of action to get you back to alignment
After dealing with migraines my whole life, then panic attacks and most recently vertigo, which is the absolute worst experience to go through. I was determined to find help and that is where I found Peak Chiropractic with Dr. John and Dr. Kyara. They are warm, welcoming and above all experts in the field of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care. They walk you through the process step by step and with a 3D imaging machine you visually can seen how out of align you are and then a plan of action to get you back to alignment. The adjustments are gentle and precise. No cracking or extreme movement of the head, which I can't handle. The last time I saw a chiropractor the extreme movement of my head led me to vomit in the bathroom right after the appointment. Not the case at Peak Chiropractic! I am on a treatment plan that started in February and will go until July and that gives my neck time to adjust and heal and then hopefully maintenance after. I can't tell you how happy I am to finally feel better, sleep better. I don't have the wave of dizziness that I was having on the daily. I also suffer from panic attacks driving and that in itself is debilitating. Even though I came to Peak for migraine and vertigo issues, I had no idea how much it would help me in gaining back my confidence to drive. I no longer get in my car with the feeling of dread and panic. That in itself is life changing!! So thankful and grateful for the care I am receiving and the healing and recovery process. I highly recommend you take the time to get the help you need if suffering from migraines, vertigo or panic attacks. No reason to be miserable when you can get the help you need and through Amazing people like Dr. John and Dr. Kyara!

Military neck compared to normal cervical curve alignment

Military Neck Treatment in Boise: Restoring Your Natural Neck Curve

"Military neck" is the nickname for what happens when that curve flattens out, straightens, or in some cases reverses. The name comes from the rigid, at-attention posture it can create, like a soldier standing very upright. You may also hear it called loss of cervical lordosis or cervical kyphosis. Whatever it's called, the core issue is the same: the neck has lost the natural curve it's supposed to have.

Migraine Treatment in Boise: Calming the Nervous System With Upper Cervical Care

If you live with migraines, you already know they are nothing like an ordinary headache. The light that suddenly feels too bright, the nausea, the pressure that can steal an entire day — these aren't a matter of "just pushing through." At Peak Upper Cervical Center here in Boise, we look at migraines a little differently. Instead of only chasing the pain when it hits, we ask why your nervous system is tipping into a migraine in the first place.
